Jyotirao ‘Jyotiba’ Govindrao Phule was a prominent social reformer and thinker of the nineteenth century India. He led the movement against the prevailing caste-restrictions in India. He revolted against the domination of the Brahmins and struggled for the rights of peasants and other low-caste people. Mahatma Jyotiba Phule was also a pioneer for women education in India and fought for education of girls throughout his life. He is believed to be the first Hindu to start an orphanage for the unfortunate children.

He was born on April 11, 1827, in Satara, Maharashtra. His family was very poor and used to work as a gardener in gardens for living. Jyotiba was only one year old when his mother passed away. Jyotiba was brought up by a babysitter named Sagunabai. Sagunabai gave her mother's affection and kindness.

Arabic-Persian scholar Gaffar Baig Munshi and Father Lizit Sahab were neighbors of Jyotiba. Seeing his interest in Jyotiba's talent and education, he tried to send him back to school. Jyotiba again started going to school. He always used to come first in school. Commentary on religion - On hearing the comment, there was curiosity among them that why there is so much inequality in Hinduism? What is caste and caste system? He used to think about society, religion and country with his friend Sadashiv Ballal Gondve.

He decided that he would manage schools for disadvantaged sections. At that time caste, high and low walls were very high. Dalits and women were stopped by education. Jyotiba used to teach the Dalits and the girls in their home to break this arrangement. He used to hide and bring the children away. As their supporters grew, they openly started running the school.
Jyotiba had to face many difficulties after starting school. There is no one ready to teach in his school. Even if someone is educator, he has to stop this work soon after social pressure. Who teaches in these schools? It was a serious problem. Jyotiba taught to read his wife Savitri for the solution of this problem and then trained in the mission schools of Normal school. After training, she became the first trained lady teacher of India.

After the renunciation, husband and wife faced many difficulties. But he did not run away from his goal. Darkness was black night. The lightning was shining. Mahatma Jyotiba was late in returning home. The gallop was moving towards the house. They saw lightning going on in the way, two men are going for shining swords on their way. He reached his side by speeding his moves. Mahatma Jyotiba wanted to know his introduction to him and the reason behind him walking in such a long night. He said we are going to kill Jyotiba.
Mahatma Jyotiba said - what will you get by killing them? They said - money will get, we need money.Mahatma Jyotiba thought again momentarily - hit me, hit me, I am Jyotiba, if you have any interest in killing me, then I will be happy. As soon as he listened, his swords were lost by hand. He fell at the feet of Jyotiba, and became his disciple.
Mahatma Jyotiba Phule established the organization called "Truth Researcher Society". The truth seeker society was different from other organizations of the time due to its theories and programs.The truth seeker society spread all over Maharashtra soon. The people of the truth seeker society opened the school for the education of dalits and girls in place. Opposed to touching the fingertips.Movement to protect the interests of farmers.

Due to the struggle of Mahatma Jyotiba and his organization, the government passed the 'Agricultural Act'. He also wrote a number of books to highlight the truth of religion, society and traditions. He died on November 28, 1890 .
Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar was very influenced by the ideals of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and he had said -
